This picture of a facial laceration was taken on 9 Aug 2010 (National Day).
It is a very common type of wound sustained over the jaw bone. Because
of the curvature of the bony prominence, wound here tends to gape
open widely. This particular  wound measured over 3 cm and it was
relatively clean. There was no significant swelling and bruise seen and
the bone structure appeared normal. Any significant swelling, bruise and
bony deformity must be checked for open fracture.

The second picture was taken right after wound repair and closure.

The third picture was taken 5 days after repair with all the sutures
removed. Wound had healed well.

Learning Points

Safety is paramount in preventing accidents. This showcases a minor
injury and its treatment but prevention is still the best medicine.
