Causal Factor

The patient had dyed his beard and moustache with commercial hair dye
bought off the shelf.

Symptoms and Signs

Instant redness and inflammation with papules, blisters and excoriation
of the skin superficially.

Prognosis

He recovered well from treatment without any scar nor
hyperpigmentation.

Learning Points

In recent years, dying hair has become a popular trend among both
young and old alike. It is good to keep in mind that hair dyes are common
causes of irritant contact dermatitis.

Symptoms appear rapidly and are highly disturbing to patients who
usually will seek prompt medical attention and rightly so.

Those with history of skin allergy and other atopies such as asthma and
allergic rhinitis are particularly vulnerable.
